Everyone who has ever used an iOS device knows exactly what it looks like when it is turning on. You see the white or black Apple logo appear until you get to the lock screen. For a long time, you've been able to change this icon to whatever you want if you had a jailbreak, but those without a jailbreak were stuck with the standard Apple logo. However, thanks to an exploit found in iOS 11.0 to 11.1.2, anyone running an iOS version in that range can now set a custom boot logo!

Torngat is an app which takes advantage of this exploit and allows users to customize lots of aspects of their device. This includes changing the icon shape, block apps getting revoked, customize control center more, and of course, change the iOS boot logo. All you need is the app, a link to the logo you want to use, and about a minute of your time.

Requirements & Notes

  • This does not require a jailbroken device.
  • This app is signed and can be revoked at any time by Apple. If this happens the app will start to crash. To fix this, re-download the app and try again. If this does not fix the issue then try again in a few days. (Click here to see how to prevent apps getting revoked)
  • This is done at your own risk. Although this is fairly foolproof, there is always a small risk of something going wrong.

Written Guide

  1. Navigate to this page on your iOS device (must be with Safari). This should load a website where you can download a bunch of different hacked applications.
  2. Tap the link at the top of the page that says 'Apps'. Scroll down until you find the button titled 'Tweakbox Apps', then tap on it.
  3. Scroll down and tap button named 'Torngat'. Once this page loads, tap the 'Install' button near the top right. After a few seconds, a pop-up should appear asking if you want to install the Torngat app. Tap the 'Install' button, then the app should begin to install on your home screen like a normal app store app.
  4. Once the app has been installed it will not open due to an untrusted enterprise developer error. To solve this open the Settings app and navigate to General>Device Management
  5. Tap one of the menus within this page until you find the one containing Torngat. Tap 'Trust' twice and the app will become trusted.
  6. You should now be able to open and use Torngaton your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.
  7. Open the Torngat app and wait for an advert to appear, then tap the 'skip' or 'X' button to close it. Next, tap the button at the bottom labelled 'Run', then 'Continue'. This will run the exploit required to change the boot logo. If you are not running iOS 11.0 to 11.1.2, this will fail.
  8. A list of options should appear. Tap on the button that says 'Bootlogo'. Now you will need to find a boot logo to set.
  9. To find a boot logo, you can either search for one on Google yourself or click here to see some I found. Make sure not to pick an image that is too big, as it will spill off of the screen (around 300px max for iPhones).
  10. Once you find an icon you like, you need to get the direct link to it. For most images on Google, you can get this by tapping the three dots on the right, followed by 'View original image'. If this opens just the image, copy the link to it. If it opens a website with the image on it, you will need to find the original link another way.
  11. Go back to the Torngat app, and paste the link to your image in the 'URL' box. Dismiss the keyboard using the button provided, then tap the 'Change' button to set the boot logo.
  12. Reboot your device, and you should see the image you chose!
